• Al Burda Festival

The inaugural Al Burda Festival connected visual art, performance, workshops and awards across Warehouse421 and The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi.

In November 2018, the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development launched the Al Burda Festival and Awards Show across Warehouse421 and NYU Abu Dhabi. Artists and cultural practitioners from across the MENA region came together for workshops, interactive sessions and knowledge exchange before the programme moved into an evening performance at the NYU main theatre.

An inaugural event has no inherited visual memory. Evolution's role as lead design and production agency was therefore to give Al Burda its first physical language - one that could hold together different art forms, programme formats and venues without competing with the creative work at the centre of the festival.

The event brand became the thread connecting daytime discovery with evening performance, allowing audiences to experience the festival as one curated cultural journey rather than a collection of separate activities.

    The Challenge

The programme changed character throughout the day. Galleries and workshops needed calm, adaptable environments that supported close attention, while the plenary and awards show required a stronger sense of focus and occasion. Warehouse421 and NYU Abu Dhabi also presented different architectures and operating conditions.

The design had to establish a recognisable new platform while remaining culturally sensitive and visually disciplined. Scenic elements, temporary structures, collateral and documentation all needed to reinforce the identity without overwhelming the artists, discussions and performances.

    The Solution

Evolution developed a comprehensive event brand and applied it across the main stage, galleries, workshops, collateral and onsite communication. Rather than using branding as a surface treatment, the identity was used to organise the audience experience and establish continuity as the programme moved between locations and formats.

At Warehouse421, the temporary plenary structure created a central gathering point within the daytime programme. Gallery and workshop environments were shaped around viewing, making and exchange, giving each activity a clear setting while retaining a shared visual character.

The evening transition to the NYU main theatre introduced a more theatrical atmosphere without abandoning the festival identity. This gave the awards and performance programme a sense of progression: the day moved from exploration and dialogue into recognition and performance, but remained recognisably Al Burda.

Evolution coordinated event production, site services, branding, collateral, photography and video through one team. For a first edition, the documentation was strategically important, creating an archive of the festival's visual identity and audience experience that could support future communication.

    Outcome

Al Burda opened with a clear identity that could accommodate workshops, galleries, knowledge exchange, awards and performance without making those formats feel disconnected. Audiences experienced a deliberate progression from daytime participation to an evening of cultural recognition.

More importantly, the first edition established a visual foundation for the festival itself: distinctive enough to be remembered, flexible enough to evolve, and restrained enough to keep artists and ideas in the foreground.

  • ADGM Tenth Anniversary

A decade of ADGM milestones brought to life through an illuminated timeline, live hospitality, entertainment and a synchronised outdoor finale for 500 guests.

Abu Dhabi Global Market marked ten years of innovation, growth and community impact with an outdoor anniversary celebration at Tripico in Abu Dhabi. The event was designed for up to 500 guests and needed to honour ADGM's first decade while expressing confidence in the years ahead.

Evolution shaped the experience around the idea of a journey through time. Guests encountered ADGM's milestones through a dynamic LED timeline, moved through a relaxed landscape of food and entertainment, and gathered for a final show moment that connected video, music, lasers, lighting and fireworks.

The anniversary story was therefore not confined to speeches. It was carried through the venue, the guest experience and the sequence of the evening.

    The Challenge

The venue required a significant physical transformation before it could support a large outdoor celebration. The venue’s existing swimming pool had to be covered with a load-bearing platform capable of accommodating the event environment and up to 500 guests while maintaining the intended guest experience.

At the same time, the programme needed to balance institutional storytelling with hospitality and entertainment. Historical content had to feel engaging rather than purely retrospective, while food stations, live music, the Glambot activation and the finale needed to come together as one cohesive anniversary experience.

The final reveal brought together multiple show elements that required precise timing and coordination. Each component needed to work seamlessly with the next to create a memorable closing moment for guests.

    The Solution

Evolution transformed the pool area into a continuous event platform, creating the spatial foundation for the guest environment. Curated furniture settings, including sofas, coffee tables, barstools and accent chairs, gave the outdoor venue a refined but informal character suited to conversation and celebration.

A custom timeline wall used eleven LED panels to present milestones from ADGM's ten-year journey. Positioned as an active piece of storytelling rather than a static display, it allowed guests to encounter the organisation's history as part of their movement through the venue. A large three-dimensional ADGM logo provided a clear visual anchor and photography moment.

Live food stations added energy and choice throughout the evening, while a saxophonist welcomed guests and a deep-house fusion band shifted the atmosphere towards celebration. The Glambot activation gave attendees a personalised media moment within the wider event identity.

The finale brought the programme together through a three-minute bespoke video reveal, laser effects, a synchronised lighting sequence and fireworks set to ADGM's original AI-created anniversary song. Each element was programmed as part of one progression, allowing the celebration to conclude with a shared expression of legacy and future ambition.

    Outcome

The anniversary allowed ADGM's first decade to be experienced as a sequence rather than presented as a conventional retrospective. Guests moved between milestones, hospitality and entertainment before coming together for a finale that looked deliberately towards the future.

The transformed outdoor setting gave the occasion both scale and warmth, creating a celebration that felt institutional in significance but personal in the way guests encountered it.
