• Montenegro Pavilion National Day Celebration - Dubai, 2021

A new cultural exhibit combined specialised content, illuminated acrylic and crafted joinery within the existing Montenegro Pavilion for its National Day.

For the Montenegro Pavilion National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai, Evolution designed and installed an additional exhibit within the existing pavilion environment.

The exhibit needed to add a new layer of cultural expression without disrupting the visual character already established across the pavilion. It was therefore conceived as an enhancement rather than a separate temporary stand.

Specialised content, dynamic acrylic lighting and detailed joinery were brought together to create a focused visitor moment reflecting Montenegro’s culture and heritage.

    The Challenge

Working within an existing pavilion limited the scale and position of the new exhibit. Every connection, material and lighting element needed to align with the surrounding architecture and avoid appearing retrofitted.

The installation also needed sufficient presence for the National Day programme. It had to introduce a recognisable change and stronger cultural focus while remaining coherent with the long-term pavilion experience.

    The Solution

Evolution designed and fabricated the exhibit around the proportions and aesthetic of the existing space, allowing the new content layer to feel embedded within the pavilion.

Dynamic acrylic lighting elements introduced depth, colour and movement around the specialised content installation. The lighting treatment gave the exhibit a stronger celebratory presence without relying on a large structural intervention.

Traditional joinery and acrylic fabrication were combined to balance craft, durability and contemporary presentation. High-quality detailing maintained the artistic integrity of the space at close visitor range.

The completed installation was integrated through a controlled onsite programme, protecting the existing pavilion while preparing the new exhibit for the National Day audience.

    Delivery Highlights

    • Additional National Day exhibit within the Montenegro Pavilion.
    • Design developed to integrate with the existing pavilion aesthetic.
    • Specialised cultural content installation.
    • Dynamic acrylic lighting elements.

    Outcome

The National Day exhibit gave the pavilion a new focal point without weakening its existing design. Visitors encountered a more concentrated expression of Montenegro’s culture through content, light and craftsmanship.

The intervention succeeded by feeling intentional and permanent within the space, despite being introduced for a specific celebratory programme.

  • French Pavilion @ Expo 2020 - Dubai, 2021

Custom displays, interactive elements and an intuitive visitor layout created a focused Renault story within the wider France Pavilion at Expo 2020.

Within the France Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, the Renault stand provided a dedicated platform for the brand’s technologies, products and sustainability commitments.

The challenge was to create a distinct Renault experience without disconnecting it from the wider national pavilion. Evolution developed the fit-out as a focused layer within the existing architecture, balancing brand visibility, product communication and visitor movement.

The stand used custom-built displays and interactive elements to move the experience beyond passive presentation, allowing visitors to encounter Renault’s innovation through the physical layout and points of engagement.

    The Challenge

Expo visitors move quickly through dense environments containing many competing stories. The Renault space needed an immediately understandable route and enough visual distinction to encourage people to stop and explore.

The installation also had to remain durable and precise throughout the long Expo operating period. Interactive features, display surfaces and circulation needed to maintain both appearance and function under sustained public use.

    The Solution

Evolution designed and constructed custom display elements around Renault’s innovation and sustainability themes, giving products and information clear positions within the stand.

Interactive features created direct visitor engagement and introduced variation within the journey, allowing the brand story to be discovered rather than only read.

The layout was planned around intuitive circulation and comfortable interaction. Visitors could approach, understand the principal displays and move through the space without disrupting the surrounding pavilion flow.

High-quality materials and precision fabrication were selected for visual finish and structural durability, supporting the demands of a long-duration public exhibition.

    Delivery Highlights

    • Renault brand environment within the France Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
    • Custom-built product and information displays.
    • Interactive visitor-engagement elements.
    • Layout planned for intuitive circulation and interaction.
    • High-quality materials selected for visual finish and durability.
    • Complete exhibition fit-out integrated within the existing pavilion.

    Outcome

The stand gave Renault a clear identity within the larger France Pavilion while allowing visitors to understand its products and future-facing commitments at their own pace.

Its effectiveness came from balance: visible enough to stand apart, integrated enough to belong, and durable enough to sustain continued public engagement throughout Expo.

  • Expo 2020 Closing Ceremony

A giant gold Expo ring suspended 20 metres above the stage transformed into a concealed rain curtain for the closing ceremony at Al Wasl Dome.

For the Expo 2020 Dubai Closing Ceremony, Five Currents LLC commissioned Evolution to create a giant suspended gold ring inspired by the Expo emblem.

The structure needed to serve two purposes: a visually striking symbol above the stage and a fully engineered performance element capable of releasing a seamless curtain of rain during the ceremony.

Evolution translated the conceptual design into a flyable scenic structure integrating concealed water tanks and technical systems. The result was a dramatic transformation moment that remained hidden from the audience until activation.

    The Challenge

The ring needed to remain structurally secure while suspended approximately 20 metres above the stage, while maintaining the refined appearance of a simple gold emblem. All engineering components, including the concealed water system, needed to remain hidden from the audience.

Water behaviour, structural loading, surface finish, rigging and live show timing all required precise coordination. Each element had to perform reliably as part of one integrated scenic and technical system to deliver the intended ceremonial moment.

Evolution Events delivered the suspended scenic centrepiece for the Expo 2020 closing celebration

    The Solution

Evolution engineered the ring as a combined scenic feature and water-performance mechanism. Concealed tanks and distribution technology were integrated within the form without interrupting its circular profile or refined gold finish.

The design was developed around the requirements of suspension and movement, with stringent safety considerations and coordination with the Al Wasl Dome rigging system informing load paths, connection points and final positioning.

Materials and finishes were carefully selected to preserve the elegance of the Expo-inspired emblem while meeting the durability requirements of a suspended live-effect feature.

Extensive testing aligned water flow, rigging, positioning and show timing, allowing the ring to transform into a continuous rain curtain during the ceremony before returning seamlessly to its role as a visual symbol.

    Delivery Highlights

    • Giant gold ring inspired by the Expo 2020 emblem.
    • Suspended approximately 20 metres above the stage at Al Wasl Dome.
    • Hidden water tanks and rain-curtain technology integrated within the structure.
    • Engineering for a large-scale flown scenic installation.
    • High-quality gold finish concealing the functional systems.
    • Integration with the Al Wasl Dome rigging system.
    • Extensive testing of water flow, positioning and live operation.
closing ceremony at Al Wasl Dome of Expo 2020

    Outcome

The ring delivered a final transformation that turned a familiar Expo symbol into a theatrical rain curtain above the stage. The moment appeared effortless to the audience, yet relied on complex engineering, precise timing and integrated scenic technology.

Its impact depended on concealment. Guests experienced the visual simplicity of gold, scale and falling water, while the tanks, distribution systems, rigging and engineering remained seamlessly integrated within the scenic form.
