• Abu Dhabi Airports National Day

Three distinct celebration zones translated Abu Dhabi Airports’ values into culture, entertainment, family activity and VIP hospitality at the Airports Garden.

On 29 November 2022, Abu Dhabi Airports celebrated UAE National Day at the Airports Garden in collaboration with GAL and RoyalJet. The event needed to engage a broad airport community while remaining clearly connected to the organisation hosting the celebration.

Evolution built the creative response around Abu Dhabi Airports’ three core values: Committed, Collaborative and Exceptional. Each value was translated into a distinct event zone, creating a spatial journey where guests could explore the brand through movement, activity and atmosphere.

The result was a National Day celebration where culture, entertainment, hospitality and family participation were integrated with the organisation’s identity. Each element was designed to reflect the values of Abu Dhabi Airports while creating an engaging experience for employees, families and guests.

    The Challenge

The audience included adults, children, operational stakeholders and VIP guests, each requiring different levels of engagement. The environment needed to offer variety while maintaining a cohesive identity, creating opportunities for participation without relying solely on a central stage programme.

Food, entertainment, interactive activities and an exclusive majlis also needed to coexist within one outdoor setting. The layout had to support intuitive guest movement, ensuring each experience was accessible while preserving the feeling of one shared celebration.

    The Solution

Evolution divided the Airports Garden into three connected zones, each reflecting one of Abu Dhabi Airports’ core values. This created an immediate narrative structure for the celebration, allowing each area to have its own character while remaining part of one unified guest journey.

Interactive activities were developed for both adults and children, creating opportunities for participation across generations. Stage performances, roaming entertainment and display areas introduced different moments of engagement throughout the site, allowing guests to explore the celebration at their own pace rather than relying on a single central programme.

A dedicated VIP majlis provided a quieter hospitality environment for networking and relaxation. Food trucks and local food stations were distributed throughout the venue, integrating dining into the guest flow while reinforcing the cultural character of the occasion.

Evolution coordinated the design, programme and live operations across the celebration, ensuring the three zones remained visually connected and functioned together as one cohesive National Day experience.

    Delivery Highlights

    • UAE National Day celebration at Abu Dhabi Airports Garden on 29 November 2022.
    • Three distinct zones based on the values Committed, Collaborative and Exceptional.
    • Interactive activities designed for adults and children.

    • Food trucks and local food stations distributed across the venue.
    • Integrated event design, programming and live delivery.

    Outcome

The celebration allowed Abu Dhabi Airports’ values to be experienced through the environment rather than simply displayed. Guests moved through three distinct zones, each reflecting a different aspect of the organisation while encountering culture, play, hospitality and entertainment within one unified celebration.

By connecting the event layout directly to the brand values, the National Day programme felt specific to the airport community while maintaining the welcoming and inclusive character expected of a national celebration.

  • UAE 50th National Day

One hundred illuminated building replicas rose from the stage at Hatta Dam, turning five decades of national development into a synchronised kinetic skyline.

The UAE’s 50th National Day celebration at Hatta used the landscape of Hatta Dam as the setting for a performance tracing the nation’s progress and achievements.

Evolution collaborated with LarMac Projects ME Limited to create 100 telescopic lightboxes based on iconic UAE buildings. Together, the structures formed a scenic narrative of national development rather than a conventional architectural backdrop.

The creative concept relied on movement, scale and illumination. Each structure needed to rise from the stage, maintain the recognisable proportions of its architectural reference and perform as part of a synchronised landscape of light that remained legible across the dam.

    The Challenge

Every building required its own visual identity while operating as part of one mechanical system. Taller structures needed up to four telescoping tiers, custom lifting mechanisms and sufficient stability for live performers working nearby.

The mountainous setting introduced high winds, rain and humidity. The scenic elements also had to retract into the stage floor and operate reliably within a live performance where timing and synchronisation were critical.

    The Solution

Evolution designed, supplied, installed and operated 100 custom lightboxes, each modelled on an iconic UAE building and adjusted to retain relative scale differences within the stage composition.

Heavy-duty industrial tracks and telescopic tower mechanisms allowed the structures to emerge and retract. Multi-tier designs were engineered for taller buildings, translating the varied national skyline into a workable kinetic system.

Independently controlled LEDs created dimensional lighting across each replica. All 100 elements were connected through a single electrical control circuit, allowing colour and sequence changes to be synchronised from a command position approximately 30 metres away.

Structural design, testing and live operation were developed around weather exposure, performer safety and the precision required for the buildings to rise as part of the choreography.

    Delivery Highlights

    • One hundred custom telescopic replicas of iconic UAE buildings.
    • Scenic sequence staged on an artificial pool at the edge of Hatta Dam.
    • Up to four telescoping tiers for the tallest building structures.
    • Custom lifting mechanisms and heavy-duty industrial tracks.
    • Independently controlled LED lighting within every lightbox.
    • Synchronised control through one electrical circuit from 30 metres away.
    • Engineering for high winds, rain, humidity and live performer safety.
Monumental floating stage structure built over water for national day theatrical performance

    Outcome

The buildings transformed national progress into a live visual event. As the illuminated skyline emerged from the stage, architecture became a moving timeline rather than a static symbol.

The precision of the mechanical and lighting systems allowed 100 individual structures to read as one national image, creating a powerful centrepiece within the Hatta landscape.

  • Mother of the Nation Festival

A 1.4-kilometre cultural festival translated values of heritage, wellbeing, creativity, giving and national pride into ten days of public experience.

From 24 March to 2 April 2016, the inaugural Mother of the Nation Festival celebrated the values and achievements of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak across more than 1.4 kilometres of the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The programme brought Emirati culture, healthy living, environmental awareness, creativity, emerging artists, charitable giving and national pride into one family-focused public event.

Evolution conceived the festival as a sequence of experiences rather than a single entertainment programme. Layouts, themes, installations, activities and international performers were curated so different audiences could find their own route through the values being celebrated.

    The Challenge

The ten-day festival needed to engage families and visitors of different ages across an unusually long waterfront site. The themes were broad, but the experience had to feel coherent rather than like unrelated zones placed along the Corniche.

The build also faced severe weather. Storm damage required last-minute repairs and adjustments without compromising the scheduled public opening or the quality of the completed environments.

    The Solution

Evolution developed the overall festival concept, master layout, themes and activity plan around the intended values and audience mix. Individual zones could therefore offer different content while still contributing to a single cultural narrative.

Interactive activities and original content were designed for a broad public audience. International performers and activities expanded the cultural range, while customised installations and activity environments gave each programme strand a clear physical identity.

Full lighting, rigging, audio and video systems supported the 1.4-kilometre site, creating continuity and live capability across the festival rather than concentrating production in one central location.

When storm damage affected the build, Evolution reorganised repair and production activity around the fixed opening date. The recovery effort protected both the guest-facing design and the operational readiness of the festival.

    Delivery Highlights

    • Ten-day festival from 24 March to 2 April 2016.
    • More than 1.4 kilometres of the Abu Dhabi Corniche transformed into a public experience.

    Outcome

The festival gave a wide set of national and social values a tangible public form. Visitors could move between culture, creativity, wellbeing, environmental awareness and giving while remaining within one recognisable celebration.

Its scale was matched by its resilience: the event opened on schedule despite severe weather during the build, allowing the Corniche to operate as a complete cultural destination for ten days.

  • USA Presidential Reception

U.S. President Donald Trump and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the official state visit ceremony at Qasr Al Watan, Abu Dhabi, UAE, 2025.

In May 2025, Abu Dhabi hosted the official state visit of U.S. President Donald Trump, marking a significant diplomatic occasion within the broader programme of engagements between the United States and the United Arab Emirates. The visit included ceremonial welcomes, cultural performances and official receptions across some of the country's most recognisable venues, including Zayed Airport and Qasr Al Watan.

Appointed directly by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and National Projects Office, Evolution Events was entrusted with the operational delivery of the ceremonial programme, managing performer operations, venue readiness, temporary infrastructure, animal coordination and live event execution across all three locations.

Supporting an event of this significance required more than flawless logistics. It required the ability to coordinate thousands of moving parts across multiple venues while maintaining the dignity, precision and cultural authenticity expected of a state visit receiving global attention.

    The Challenge

State visits operate within an environment where security, protocol and timing are non-negotiable. Every movement, performance and operational activity must align precisely with presidential schedules, security requirements and ceremonial objectives.

With approximately three weeks of preparation, the project required the mobilisation of large-scale temporary infrastructure while coordinating more than 1,000 performers, extensive cultural programming and significant ceremonial animal participation across multiple active venues.

The greatest challenge was not the scale of the programme, but maintaining operational flexibility within an environment where presidential movements, protocol requirements and security considerations could change with little notice.

With thousands of performers, ceremonial participants, support staff and animals operating across three venues, schedules, transport movements, accreditation plans and holding areas frequently required adjustment while ensuring every participant remained safe, comfortable and ready to perform at the required moment.

Delays to official movements could not simply result in performers waiting on buses or animals remaining in holding areas for extended periods. Welfare, comfort and readiness had to be balanced against the need to remain fully prepared for evolving timelines. This required constant communication between venue teams, performer coordinators, transport providers, security stakeholders and government-appointed horse and camel teams to ensure the programme remained both flexible and operationally resilient.

In addition, all staff, performers and operational personnel required detailed accreditation and access management processes in collaboration with presidential security teams, creating a highly controlled operating environment where precision and reliability were critical.

    The Solution

A dedicated operational structure was established to coordinate every aspect of delivery across the three venues. Working closely with protocol representatives, security stakeholders and government-appointed horse and camel teams, Evolution Events developed an integrated programme that balanced ceremonial presentation with operational control.

At Emirates Palace, a large-scale backstage compound was created to support more than 800 performers and 250 animals. The facility functioned as a temporary operational hub, incorporating performer holding areas, welfare facilities, catering coordination, accreditation management and dedicated zones for horses and camels.

At Zayed Airport, the team delivered the arrival ceremony and traditional Emirati welcome performance, carefully coordinated to align with the presidential arrival sequence and official welcoming protocol.

At Qasr Al Watan, large-scale cultural performances involving more than 1,000 performers were coordinated alongside a ceremonial procession featuring 125 horses and 125 camels, creating a powerful expression of Emirati heritage and hospitality.

Throughout the programme, operational teams remained prepared to adapt in real time, continually adjusting participant movements, transport schedules, holding areas and venue readiness plans to accommodate evolving timelines while maintaining a seamless guest and participant experience.

    Delivery Highlights

Rather than functioning as separate events, the three venues were managed as a single integrated operation, with performer movements, infrastructure, accreditation, security requirements and ceremonial sequences coordinated through a central delivery structure.

The project brought together expertise from across the Evolution group, including site infrastructure, technical production, furniture and operational support services, allowing multiple disciplines to operate within a unified delivery framework.

Particular focus was placed on performer operations and animal movement management. Working alongside government-appointed horse and camel teams, dedicated holding areas, offloading facilities, movement routes and operational procedures were established to ensure the safe and efficient coordination of ceremonial processions while maintaining strict adherence to security and protocol requirements.

Temporary infrastructure included performer compounds, welfare facilities, power distribution, fencing systems, transport coordination, operational support areas and venue readiness measures required to support large-scale ceremonial activity across all three locations.

Behind the public-facing spectacle, thousands of participants, support staff and operational personnel were coordinated through detailed planning, communication systems and real-time decision-making designed to keep the programme responsive without compromising quality, safety or participant wellbeing.

UAE and U.S. leaders greet each other and shake hands during the official state visit ceremony at Qasr Al Watan.

    Outcome

The state visit was delivered successfully across all three venues, with cultural performances, ceremonial processions and official hospitality programmes executed seamlessly within an exceptionally demanding operational environment.

Success was measured not only by the flawless execution of the public-facing ceremonies, but by the ability of the delivery team to absorb continual schedule adjustments without impacting the participant experience. Despite evolving timings and operational changes throughout the visit, performers, support teams and ceremonial participants remained fully supported, informed and prepared, allowing each venue to transition seamlessly into live operation whenever required.

Perhaps the greatest measure of success was the level of trust placed in the delivery team. While government stakeholders managed the wider diplomatic programme and protocol requirements, Evolution Events operated the ceremonial environments with a high degree of autonomy, providing confidence that complex logistical and operational challenges would be resolved professionally, calmly and without disruption.

The result was a dignified and memorable welcome that reflected the significance of the occasion while demonstrating the capability required to deliver large-scale government events at the highest level.
